As a major club objective, BEEC will be working to develop a formal proposal for establishing a student supported green fund to support clean power and sustainability initiatives at Babson College. The club is currently soliciting support from students (both graduate and undergraduate), alumni, faculty and staff who would be interested in working to develop this proposal over the duration of the 2007-2008 academic year for the consideration of Babson's administration. BEEC will create a planning committee this fall and all interested participants are encouraged to contact the club regarding their interest via email.

PROJECT GOALS
  • Develop a formal proposal for instating a student supported fund while considering:
    • student participation, preferences and interests involving on-campus green initiatives.
    • Babson's current strategic and sustainability focused objectives.
    • financial targets and funding sources.
    • fund allocation/usage.
    • fund management/governance.
  • Build support for the proposal among students, campus organizations and Babson administrators.
  • Present recommendations to Babson's governing bodies for further consideration and implementation.

EXPECTED GREEN FUND BENEFITS
 Students will be able to:
  • develop and defend our reputation as environmentally responsible leaders.
  • gain the attention of future employers, especially those involved with the clean tech industry.
  • further strengthen the Babson brand and increase the value of our investment in the MBA program.
  • accomplish much more than we would be able to as individuals by contributing to a fund collectively.
 Babson will be able to:
  • reduce the environmental impact of on-campus operations.
  • reduce energy costs through on-campus installations of renewable energy technologies.
  • build the school's relationship within the rapidly expanding clean tech industry and potentially secure new recruitment opportunities for students.
  • receive positive exposure from student commitment to such a program.
  • remain competitive with other B-schools that have already demonstrated significant commitments to sustainability (HBS, Fuqua, Tuck, Darden, Kenan-Flagler).

Recent survey results indicate strong support for sustainable and environmentally responsible business practices among students at the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business. In April 2007, BEEC conducted a survey to determine the level of support that would exist for a student supported green energy fund. 76% of graduate respondents indicated that they would be willing to financially support green power initiatives at Babson.
